HOWDY!
This is Meg, a 9th year resident of Austin, Texas, USA, and a local guide.
I want to spend some time sightseeing downtown! But I want to fill my stomach with crispiness, and I might miss Japanese food a little.
Where should I go in such a time?
To answer such questions, the guide for the ninth year of living in the area recommends Hokkaisan Japanese Deli Sushi, a convenience store-sized Japanese restaurant that opened in the center of downtown in 2025.
It is easy to stop in between sightseeing, and is popular as a spot where you can casually enjoy Japanese flavors from snacks to sweets and desserts.
1 Get crispy Japanese food in downtown
Downtown Austin is packed with popular restaurants, but the reality is that there are few "Japanese food that can be bought quickly".
In the meantime, it opened in 2025Hokkaisan Japanese Deli Sushiis a Japanese food deli that can be visited as a convenience store, and it is a reassuring presence for travelers.
South Congress Avenue from Texas State Capitol to South CongressExcellent access as it's right on the side.
It's also within walking distance of the downtown 6th Street area, lined with state capitols, restaurants, and bars, making it a great place to grab a quick meal between sightseeing schedules.

Colorful climbing flags such as "sushi" and "bento box" are landmarks
2 Full assortment of snacks, desserts and snacks
The attraction is that the lineup is close to that of Japanese convenience stores at one time.
Snacks such as rice balls and rolled sushi are rich in variety, from classic nori rolls to localized items such as California rolls.
When I visited, the lineup of spicy onigiri balls was unbroken.
There may be a high demand for Texans who love chili peppers.

There are also plenty of Japanese snacks such as senbei, pockets, and potatoes, which are also useful for night meals and small meals at hotels.

If you want something sweet, try Japanese desserts like daifuku, rolled cakes, and matcha sweets.
Alcohols such as beer and sake are lined up in the refrigerated corner in the back.

3. Online ordering and delivery of sushi
"I have no energy to go out today..." "I want to eat slowly at the hotel"
You can also order sushi online or use delivery services from the store's homepage.
It's convenient to enjoy Japanese flavors as they are in your room.
We also accept pickups, so if you order in advance, you'll only have to pick it up on the way back from sightseeing, which will save you time.

4 Rest at the outdoor dine-in corner
In front of the store, there is an outdoor dining space that you can feel free to use, and you can enjoy what you bought on the spot.
In Austin, where the sunny weather is high, snacks outside in the wind are particularly pleasant and ideal for a short break during a stroll.
On the day of my visit, many people enjoyed snacks purchased at the store.
Facing South Congress Avenue on Main Street, it's an invaluable spot to get a feel for Austin's cityscape and its people.
